Directed By: Nora Ephron
Starring: Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan
Full Disclosure: I wasn’t heavily into Rom-Coms (romantic comedies) until I saw this one.
A modern day Romeo & Juliet set in the bustle & hustle of New York City. Meg Ryan plays Kathleen Kenny, a small scale book shop owner who unbeknownst to her falls in love with a bookstore magnate named Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) whose Fox Books is a rival of hers. The movie plays out like a typical romantic film with a twist, it is done in the anonymity of The Internet through AOL (an early pioneer ISP). Through the ups and downs and assorted meetings ending in an emotionally charged climax.

If you want a story that has all the elements and makes you cheer, boo and cry in one film give this one a try. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan make quite a pair in this film and their on screen chemistry is evident throughout. This is definitely one of Nora Epron’s best films knit together like a perfectly woven sweater not missing as much as a stitch.
