Liar Liar: A Review

LiarLiarDirected By: Tom Shadyac
Starring: Jim Carrey
Status: Released

This film is Jim Carrey at his comical best. Carrey leads a stellar ensemble including Maura Tierney (Television’s ER), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) and Jennifer Tilly (The Haunted Mansion).

Jim plays Fletcher Reede, a rising attorney and habitual liar who is on the verge of the biggest case of his career. His work has left him little time for his son Max (newcomer Justin Cooper), who on the eve of his fifth birthday wishes for his father not to lie for 24 hours. After his first slip-up, Reede soon discovers that his fast talking mouth may be his biggest liability.

Director Tom Shadyac gave Carrey very little direction in this film, allowing for Jim Carrey to unleash his trademark clowning around slapstick style humour. The writing keeps it fresh and the gags just keep piling up like autumn leaves. Watch the end credits too for some outtakes that are sure to tickle your funny bone. If you don’t leave with at least a titter, a snicker or even a howl you need a check-up from the neck-up

My Rating: 5/5 Stars
