Happy Gilmore: A Review

HappyGilmoreDirected By: Dennis Dugan
Starring: Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Carl Weathers
Status: Released

SNL Alumni Adam Sandler hits the links in this hilariously crafted film which Sandler reportedly based on a childhood friend of his.

Failed hockey player Happy Gilmore starts to play golf in order to raise the money to save his grandmother’s house from foreclosure by the IRS. His unconventional approach to the game and antics on the greens raises the ire of arch rival Shooter McGavin (Christopher MacDonald) who wants hims gone at all costs. When the time comes for the tour championship, Gilmore with the help of a gorgeous Public Relations director (Julie Bowen) and golf legend Chubbs Peterson (Carl Weathers) sharpens his game and his image to take on McGavin and get Grandma’s house back.

Featuring all star cameos including Joe Flaherty (SCTV), Ben Stiller (Zoolander), Richard Kiel (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Frances Bay (Road To Avonlea), Bob Barker (The Price Is Right) and Kevin Nealon (SNL) this movie does not disappoint. Adam Sandler does such a good job with his unorthodox swing that you would swear it was the real thing and MacDonald does such a good job as the golfer everybody loves to hate. Great Film and simply a must see.
